mmoexp – The Future of Global Players in Aion 2: VPN Bans, Doubts, and a Flicker of Hope

The cheap Aion 2 Kinah community just got hit with some potentially huge—and scary—news. After listening to the latest developer livestream from Antisoft, many global players are left wondering: Is this the end for overseas players on the Korean and Taiwanese servers?

What started as a fairly normal stream—talk about the next update, issues with the Dramata Dungeon, and the announcement that over 800,000 bot accounts had been banned—suddenly took a sharp turn. One line, in particular, sent shockwaves through the community:

“Overseas VPN ban incoming.”

For players outside Korea and Taiwan, this is a big deal. Right now, the only way most global players can access Aion 2 is by using a VPN. If VPNs are truly being targeted, this could potentially lock out a massive part of the international player base overnight.

Bots vs. Players: The Big Question

Later in the stream, the developers clarified that they want to focus on bot VPNs. That sounds reasonable on paper—nobody wants bots ruining the game. But it raises a huge and uncomfortable question:

How will they distinguish between bot VPNs and regular, paid VPNs used by real players?

Many players aren't using shady free VPNs. They're paying monthly subscriptions—sometimes €20–30 a month—just to be able to play. Are those going to be caught in the crossfire? Will certain VPN services be targeted? Or will all overseas connections be treated the same?

Right now, nobody knows. And that uncertainty is what's making people nervous.

Korea Only… or Taiwan Too?

Another critical detail is still unclear: Is this policy aimed only at Korean servers, or will Taiwanese servers be affected as well?

Some players already moved from Korea to Taiwan due to connection issues, frequent verification checks, and constant disconnects on the Korean servers. Taiwan has been the more stable home for many global players. If the same rules get applied there too, then there may truly be no place left for overseas players until the global release.

Historically, though, changes applied to Korean servers often end up being mirrored on Taiwanese servers. That's why a lot of players are bracing for the worst.

Why Now?

This is the part that really confuses the community. Aion 2 has been out in Korea and Taiwan for over two and a half months. If VPN usage was such a big problem, why act now?

One optimistic theory is that this could be a sign of something bigger:

Maybe the developers are preparing for a global release sooner than expected and want to “clean up” the regional servers first. The official global launch is still expected in 2026, but could this mean it's coming earlier than we think?

It's pure speculation—for now—but it's one of the few hopeful interpretations of the situation.

The Emotional Side: Progress, Burnout, and Waiting

For many veterans, Aion 2 isn't just another MMO. Some have been playing the franchise for 15 years or more. Hitting a gear score of around 3,000, investing time (and some money), and logging in every single day—that's not something you just walk away from easily.

Losing access now would hurt. A lot.

At the same time, there's an honest silver lining:

If global players are forced to stop until the worldwide release, maybe they won't burn out before the game even officially launches in their region. Coming in fresh, hyped, and ready in 2026 might actually be healthier in the long run.

Still, that doesn't make it any easier to leave a character and months of progress behind.

What If Aion 2 Is Off the Table?

This is where things get even more grim. The MMO landscape right now isn't exactly overflowing with exciting options:

Lost Ark is fading for many players.

New World is widely considered dead.

Aion Classic/Retail feels like old ground after so many years.

Ashes of Creation is in early access, but not inspiring much confidence yet.

Chrono Odyssey might have a beta this year—but there's no official word.

Other upcoming MMOs like ArcheAge Chronicles, Lord of Mysteries, or even TERA 2 are still far off.

That's why Aion 2 feels so important. It's not the “last hope” for MMOs—but it is one of the very few big new MMORPGs we know we'll get globally.

Maintenance Day: The Moment of Truth

With maintenance coming up, many players are anxious about what will happen when they try to log in afterward. Even players who don't use bots, who pay for their VPNs, and who just want to play legitimately are worried they might suddenly be locked out.

Maybe the ban wave will only hit bot-related VPNs.

Maybe only certain services will be targeted.

Or maybe… it really is over for global players on KR and TW servers—for now.

Final Thoughts: Hope, But Stay Realistic

Right now, all we can do is wait and see. The situation is scary, confusing, and frustrating—but it's not 100% confirmed that all VPN users will be banned. There's still a chance the developers are strictly targeting bot networks and abusive connections.

If you're a global Aion 2 Items player, don't be surprised if access becomes unstable or even disappears after maintenance. And if that happens, maybe—just maybe—it means the road to a true global release is getting shorter.

Until then, let's hope for the best… and prepare for the worst.
